Sobek

Sobek was the god of the Nile. He had the head of a crocodile and a human body. The Egyptians thought that he could take the form of a crocodile or a human body with a crocodile head. They said he wore a headress with feathers and a sun disk. It was said that the Nile God (Sobek) protected the king from dark magic. Live crocodiles were kept in pools or temples to honor him. The Eyptians would ornament the crocodiles with jewels in honor of Sobek. They worshiped Sobek so they could ensure fertility for their crops. It is believed that he was the son that caught the four sons of Horus in a net while they emerged from the waters in a lotus bloom. It is said that he made the Nile with his own sweat. In some areas of Egypt a tame crocodile was worshiped as if it was Sobek himself, while in other places crocodiles were hunted and killed.
